Swansea v Sunderland Predictions & Betting Odds – 10th December 2016

Swansea v Sunderland Betting Preview – Premier League 10th December

What a big three points on offer we have in this relegation scrap. A win for Swansea down at the Liberty would see them jump above Sunderland by a point. That would be massive for the Welsh outfit who were blown away by Spurs last weekend in one of the most one sided games you will ever see. Sunderland have a bit of wind in their sails at the moment though having won three of their last four top flight games and there is the golden carrot dangling in front of them of being able to move out of the drop zone this weekend, potentially with just a point out on the road. A huge relegation battle then and who will come out on top in south Wales?

Swansea v Sunderland Betting Tips

Swansea’s start the weekend rooted to the foot of the Premier League table. They are still in big trouble with just one win on the board in their last thirteen. They won that dramatic game against Crystal Palace in their most recent home fixture, but then last weekend they went to White Hart Lane to try and follow that up, but got crushed 5-0 without managing to raise a single shot in the game. So once again their defence was a shambles and that is now a massive 16 goals conceded in their last five games in the Premier League. Until that is miraculously fixed, they are going to struggle. However, Swansea do have some form against Sunderland as they have lost just one of their last eight (W5 D2) against Sunderland in the Premier League. The loss in that sequence though did happen back in last season’s corresponding fixture which was in January this year. If Swansea lose this one to 18th placed Sunderland, they will fall five points adrift of the Black Cats. Swansea’s home form this season reads just W1 D2 L4 though.

Since Bob Bradley took charge of the Swans on October 3rd, they have conceded the most goals in the Premier League (19). This is the club’s worst ever start to a Premier League season after 14 matches (nine points) and they are five points worse off than they were at this stage last season (14). Fernando Llorente and Gylfi Sigurdsson are trading as 11/8 joint favourites in the anytime goalscorer market for this one. They haven’t scored a lot this season, but their big issue is at the back with the worst defensive record in the top flight this term. Swansea have carded just one clean sheet on home soil this season, and both teams to score in this fixture will return a price of 4/6. The 1-1 correct score otpoin at Betfair will probably have appeal as well. So can Swansea get anything out of this home fixture because the Black Cats are doing alright at the moment. Sunderland have gone W3 L1 in their last four and their previous three league wins came over a period of 22 games (W3 D9 L10).

Sunderland manager David Moyes have never lost a Premier League game against Swansea either, winning five of his previous six against the Welsh club. This is the kind of game where you have to take down one of the others in a relegation scrap, so it’s a huge opportunity. Sunderland have only seen three players score for them this season and Jermain Defoe is keeping them afloat with eight goals in the bag and he has history against Swansea as well. Defoe has netted five times in three Premier League games against the Swans and the striker has netted 14 goals in 22 Premier League away games since the start of last season. He is up at 8/11 in the Betfair anytime goalscorer market and looks value considering all the goals that Swansea have conceded lately. Sunderland’s away form reads W1 D1 L5 but did land their first away win recently out at Bournemouth. So they drastically need to improve on the road, but are carrying some kind of form. Will Defoe help them bag a massive three points?

Swansea v Sunderland Predictions

A massive relegation battle and you would have to say that Sunderland are the stronger of the two at the moment. Swansea were beyond a mess at the back last weekend against Spurs and they have shipped nine goals in their last two games now. That loss against the Lilywhites brought them back down to earth sharply after having beaten Crystal Palace. Sunderland have been ticking over well enough to suggest that they are going to avoid defeat. Look for a score draw raising its head in this one. This is too important to both to lose.
