LEAKED: Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed as Ballon d’Or winner?

An image that’s reportedly France Football’s latest cover has been leaked on to Twitter – is it real and has it been unofficially confirmed?

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Neymar, Luis Suarez or someone else entirely? One of world’s best footballers will be crowned Ballon d’Or 2016 winner on Monday.

But ahead of the confirmation on Monday night, an image purporting to the cover of France Football – the media organisation who decide the winner since the award’s split from FIFA – has allegedly been leaked online.

The front cover suggests it is Real Madrid and Portugal forward Ronaldo who has won the top individual accolade.

Ronaldo has enjoyed a stellar 2016, scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League and playing a key role in Portugal triumphing in Euro 2016 against expectations.

France attacker Griezmann continued his ascent into footballing stardom by being the outstanding player at the Euros and coming a penalty shootout shy of conquering the Champions League with Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona demi-god Messi added a eighth Liga title to his silverware collection and captained Argentina to the Copa America final.

There are a smattering of other contenders in the 30-strong shortlist including Gareth Bale, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.

It’s expected to be confirmed at 7pm UK time whether Ronaldo has indeed won the Ballon d’Or; at the moment the image is not confirmed as real.
